ICBC and Active Rehab Programs with a Kinesiologist
What changes have happened with ICBC?
How does this effect my treatment?
What is active rehab with a Kinesiologist?
As of April 1, 2019, ICBC released new changes to what people can claim in respects to their motor vehicle accident. Here at Gastown Physio & Pilates, you get the best of both worlds when working with a Kinesiologist in relation to your active rehab treatment plan. Our Kinesiologist, Bec, is trained in STOTT rehabilitation reformer pilates so she can design functional exercise programs and clinical pilates programs for your specific injury.
There have been positive changes with the new ICBC claims and treatment plans. ICBC have now recognized kinesiology as an integral part of recovery from a car accident. They’re recognizing that “motion is lotion” and as an injured person, recovery is quicker and longer lasting when undergoing movement-based exercise prescription sooner. This update allows those recovering to start exercise-based rehabilitation (active rehab) sooner.
Everyone will be pre-approved for 12 active rehab sessions within 3 months of their car accident. You don’t need to get a referral from your doctor to get started with these 12 sessions or to see a Physiotherapist. Starting sooner with your Kinesiologist means that they can focus on walking you through the right treatment. Your Kinesiologist can quickly provide you with the active rehab solutions that will aid you on your road to recovery. Here at Gastown Physio & Pilates, if you’ve never completed 1:1 exercise in a gym setting, clinic or pilates studio, you’ll get the right attention and direction with your exercise instead of commencing exercise with the wrong technique, breathing cues or muscle recruitment. It is imperative to ensure your technique and posture is correct prior to adding load and repetitions. Your Kinesiologist will help you with this. At Gastown Physio & Pilates, our sessions run for 60 minutes to allow appropriate time for planning, goal setting and questions!
If your Kinesiologist recommends further sessions after the pre-approved 12 sessions, you will need to return to your Doctor for further approved sessions with a Kinesiologist. Your Kinesiologist will provide reports and updates to your Doctor and adjuster as requested throughout your treatment claim.
