October Newsletter

October finds the clinic in a season of change, and just like the autumn season, we must contend with a storm. The reality of the Covid pandemic means Gastown Physio & Pilates, Gastown Massage Therapy, and City Hall Massage Therapy continue to emphasize health and safety with rigorous protocols that go beyond the minimum requirements set by WorkSafe BC. Your comfort and confidence is our number one priority when attending our clinics, as we aim to optimize your health. If you are interested, we continue to offer Virtual Physio sessions through a video link, please contact our office if you prefer this option as a first visit, or a follow-up consultation. We appreciate your ongoing support.

Change was mentioned, and these developments are very exciting!

In no particular order (except new babies are everyone’s favourite..) Chelsea Emslie and her partner are expecting their first born in the next few months! She will be going on Maternity leave in early November, and we wish their growing family all the best!

Speaking of babies, Chelsea and Hayley (Physios) are providing an educational workshop towards optimizing pelvic health during pregnancy. A session like this is very valuable for women planning a pregnancy, are pregnant, and those women that are weeks to years postpartum. Details can be found here.

We welcome Ashleigh Low as a member of #TeamGPP Physio. She is a former Freestyle Skier, has worked extensively with weight-lifters at the National level, and practices Active Release Therapy (ART) and MPS Pain Therapy. She has also written an article on Exercises to get ready for the ski season. Look for her other articles on Cancer Care, scar tissue care, and others in the blog section.

We also welcome Linda Truong as our second newest Physio. Linda has joined us from The Glenn Sather clinic in Edmonton, Alberta, where she has extensive knowledge in ACL rehabilitation. In fact, she is in Vancouver completing her PhD at UBC on the topic of ACL injuries. She is a valuable contributing member of our Elite Physio + Performance project.

Speaking of #TeamEPP, Mark Borslein (Physio) is currently in Switzerland with the Canadian Freestyle Ski Teams (Moguls, Slope / Big Air, Half-Pipe). He is a part of their physical health preparation, and their protocols to ensure Health and Safety related to Covid.

Mark will be available to schedule a Virtual consult as of Oct. 17th. He will also be working with his colleague Sean Nugent, former Strength and Conditioning Coach for Freestyle Canada and a member of Mikael Kingsbury’s gold medal effort in South Korea. If you are looking for a comprehensive physical conditioning / rehabilitation plan, please reach out via email to: Mark (at) EarningWins.com.

And last but not least, Ayla Fletcher has finally been accredited to practice Physiotherapy in Canada! She continues to offer rehabilitation with a Pilates approach, but she also gets to do all the other fun Physio things she used to practice as a Physio back in Australia. Here she has written some information on improving your home workouts, and look in the blog section for more of her great information.

As mentioned above, we have added a significant amount of information for patients recovering from a Cancer. Ayla, Becs, and Ashleigh have provided many insights into the physical rehabilitation involved with a Cancer diagnosis.

Check back in our blog section regularly, as we add more exercises so that you can stay active at home! Also, we will be adding more information about rehabilitation from surgery in the next month, and will be supplementing these topics with Healthy Spine advice.

Thanks again for your support!
